CARLISLE United fans were served up with a special treat before the Blues’ final game of the league season – singing sensation Andrew Johnston.
The Stanwix choirboy and star of TV talent show Britain’s Got Talent performed Pie Jesu – the tune that propelled him to stardom.
Andrew received a rapturous reception from more than 12,000 delighted fans at United’s 1-1 tie with Bournemouth on Saturday.
Morag Braddock, Andrew’s mother, said: “We were a bit worried about whether the sound system could carry his voice but everyone who we saw said he sounded fantastic.
“The Bournemouth fans started chanting towards the end of the song but he kept going. He wanted to do his best for Carlisle.
“It was the police who originally asked him to go as part of their Respect campaign and I know he was delighted to do it.
“I expected him to be really nervous but he wasn’t at all.
“He has never done anything like this before but he was very professional.”
Andrew, 13, wowed TV talent show judges with his performance during the first round of hit ITV show Britain’s Got Talent and is currently waiting to find out if he has made it through to the next round.
Morag added: “This is a very nervous time for us but we are very excited.
“We have been watching the show and keeping an eye on the competition.
“There have been some very impressive acts so far.”
Andrew’s emotional audition – during which he revealed he was bullied at school for singing before performing his rendition of Pie Jesu – made judge Amanda Holden cry.
I THINK ANDREW IS AWESOME! I THINK THEY BULLIED HIM OUT OF JEALOUSY! HE HAS A GIFT THAT GOD HAS GIVEN HIM. I PRAY THAT ANDREW WILL FOLLOW NOT ONLY HIS PEERS THAT ENCOURAGE HIM, BUT FOLLOW HIS HEART! IT WILL LEAD HIM TO THE SKY!! THERE ARE NO LIMITATIONS FOR HIM!! LOVE YOU! DOES HE HAS ANY MUSIC CD'S? I WOULD LOVE TO PURCHASE HIS MUSIC!
