Andrew's pew-tube millions

A claustrophobic woman left her house for the first time in five years – to listen to teen sensation Andrew Johnston sing.

Perfect pitch: Andrew performs at Brunton Park

The woman left her house to watch the Britain’s Got Talent star perform at Carlisle Cathedral, where he is head chorister.

His mum Morag Brannock said: “One woman from Manchester who hadn’t left her house for five years was so moved after seeing him on TV that she travelled to the cathedral to hear him sing and stayed overnight. We were amazed.

“He is very popular and we are overwhelmed at all the support.”

Andrew is now one of the most watched performers on the internet site YouTube. He has received more than eight million hits.

His first performance on the ITV1 show has been watched by 2.5 million people alone.

Morag said: “We’re kind of waiting now. We don’t know when the semi finals are and we haven’t heard anything more.

“There has been no talk as yet of a record deal or anything like that. We can only keep our fingers crossed.”

The 13-year-old schoolboy who beat the bullies, is loving the attention his rendition of Pie Jesu has brought.

The week after his TV performance he entertained hundreds of new fans at Carlisle Cathedral as part of a lunchtime concert.

On Saturday he performed in front of 12,000 fans before Carlisle’s match against Bournemouth sporting a Cumbria Police Respect t-shirt.

Andrew, of Stanwix, is now odds-on favourite to win the ITV1 talent show.

His emotional audition – during which he revealed he was bullied for singing before wowing with his perfect rendition of Pie Jesu – made judge Amanda Holden cry.

He was put through to the next round which will be aired in a few weeks time.

If Andrew won Britain’s Got Talent it would earn him a £100,000 cash prize and a spot in the Royal Variety Performance in front of Prince Charles.

Have your say

Is it fair that nuisance bikers should have their machines confiscated and crushed?

Yes, they are a menace and problem

No, it's out of all proportion to what their riders have done
