Carlisle United today signed Crewe Alexandra goalkeeper Ben Williams, 25, on a free transfer.

The former Manchester United trainee is aiming for the No.1 slot at Brunton Park to replace last year's player of the season Keiren Westwood who left to join Coventry City.

Williams arrived at Crewe on a free transfer from Manchester United in summer 2004.

He was a first team regular at Gresty Road, making 49 appearances last season.

He leaves Crewe on a free transfer having rejected a new contract offer.
