Sausage firm to the Queen denies buyout

THE Cumberland sausage-makers to the Queen have dismissed reports that they have been bought out by a Yorkshire company.

Richard Woodall, of Waberthwaite, has agreed a joint venture deal with Yorkshire-based Cranswick, but it has not been bought out, stressed managing director, Colin Woodall.

He said: “We were approached by Cranswick last year and asked if the company was for sale and we said ‘no’. They came back again and the end result is that we have an agreement whereby they will be able to manufacture and market a range of Richard Woodall products to multiples and national companies which we were never going to be able to deal with.

“Our products will hopefully be where I feel they could and should be, which is on supermarket shelves throughout the country.

“We will continue to trade from Waberthwaite and look after our existing and future independent customers.”
