THE river Eden experienced a run of spring salmon over the Bank Holiday weekend and Jeff Cowlburn had the best of the Easter fun whilst fishing the Yorkshire Fly Fishers stretch of the river downstream of Wetheral.

What a beauty: Robert McEwan, 13, with one of the flounders he caught on the Impact Housing Association Salterbeck Youth Provision Groups sea fishing trip with Borderlines

Jeff was fly fishing at the Otter Stone just downstream of Warwick Bridge on Easter Monday when he hooked a splendid typical short fat Eden Springer estimated at over 20lb on a home made cone headed fly.

Julian Shaw who works in John Norris’s Penrith fishing tackle shop landed a sevenpounder at in the Willows at Parkbroom.

John Garnett landed a seven-pounder in Parkbroom Stream and John was back in action with a 10-pounder from the Willows.

Upstream at Warwick Hall, Stuart Binns fished the Rushes with a Flying C and landed a 10-pounder and Paul Davidson landed a seven-pounder in Jackies Stream on the Fly.

Ged Stevens of Barrow beat 61 seniors and nine juniors in the Tarnside Sea Anglers Club Easter Open at Braystones Beach on Easter Monday. Ged scooped £250 prize money plus £25 for the heaviest flat fish with the biggest fish, a 1lb 10oz flounder.

The fishing took place between Nethertown Concrete and Sellafield Pipe.

But north east winds put pay to any chance of decent sport and only 17 anglers weighed in on the day. Tarnside SAC member Ian Lowry of Whitehaven took second place with the heaviest bag with four flounders for 2lb 10oz which earned Ian £150 prize money.

Bob Coulson of Millom was third with two flounders for 2lb 4oz and picked up £100.

Four junior anglers weighed in and D McMullan of Millom was top junior on the day with a 10½oz founder.

Tarnside member Ross Blacklock was runner-up with an 8½oz flounder.

With no cod or bass caught on the day Angie Smith of Millom landed the heaviest round fish a 6oz rockling.

The Carlisle and District Coarse Angling Club match at Crofton Lake on Easter Monday was fished by 10 anglers and it was club bailiff Jim Porter from Thursby who came out top on the day.

Jim landed two carp including a superb 15lb common carp to weigh in a total of 16lb 4oz for first place.

In second place was Carlisle school teacher Ian Nevitt with two carp for 10lb 4oz and third was Shaun Corless with one bream for 4lb 15oz.

CADCAC are staging another walk off match at Crofton on Sunday, April 6. The draw will take place at 9am with fishing from 10am to 3pm.

And just a reminder to CADCAC members that the club’s annual general meeting will take place in the Conservative Club, Spencer Street, Carlisle at 7.30pm on Monday, April 7.

It was flounders galore for the Impact Housing Associations Salterbeck Youth Provision group’s Solway sea fishing session with Borderlines on Tuesday.

Nine young people aged between 12 and 17 took part in the session and all of them caught flounders on the day.

Gary Turner, 15, caught the first fish and added another three during the course of the day. All flounders caught by the group were returned alive after capture.
