TOM, 16, CREATES BORDER HARRIERS TRACK HISTORY

athletics

TEENAGER Tom Farrell made athletics history last weekend when he became Border Harriers’ youngest ever track debutant.

Tom was just 16 years and two months when he made his senior first team debut for the club in Saturday’s National Division One match at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre, Picketts Lock, London.

And the youngster did brilliantly to finish fourth in the 1500m B race in 4mins 02.51 secs, knocking an incredible 11 seconds off his previous best time.

The run means he is now ranked number four in the UK so far this summer. It now also means he has the English Schools qualifying times for both the 3000m and 1500m events. Tom will run at the Sheepmount in Carlisle this Saturday in the Cumbria Schools Track and Field Championships.

Meanwhile, Border Harriers are currently equal second in National Division One. The top two teams are promoted to the Premiership.

The best performances from the match in London were from Jonathan Miller, who won the 400m hurdles in a new personal best of 52.41secs and by Neil Elliott, who won the shot putt with a throw of 15m 39cms.

The league positions after two matches are as follows: League Points Match Points

Enfield & Haringey 16 (League Pts), 659 (Match Pts); Windsor Slough Eton & Hounslow 12, 613; Border Harriers 12, 609; Kent AC 11, 559; Cardiff AAC 6, 506; Thames Valley Harriers 6, 474.5; Harrow 5, 483; Blackheath and Bromley 4, 439.5.

Border Harriers’ next match is at Eton College on Saturday July 7.
