Kyle raises bar to national level

CUMBRIAN schoolboy Kyle Fisher is hoping to leap to victory in the English Schools Athletics Championships in Birmingham on July 14.

The 14-year-old Austin Friars pupil, from West Croft, Kirkbampton, will represent Cumbria in the high jump after qualifying in last month’s county championships at the Sheepmount in Carlisle.

Kyle, pictured above, who competes for Border Harriers, needed a height of 1.72 metres to qualify for the national event. And he did so by clearing jumped 1.75 metres. Kyle is also a top-ranking north west sprinter, who is yet to be beaten in the 100m, 200m and 400m.

He has also won a place representing Cumbria in the junior combined events, which saw him compete with three team mates last month in Stoke where they won the North West Championships to go through to the finals in Exeter in September.

Now Kyle has his sights set on representing England after having achieved his ambition of representing his county.
