Prudhoe Town 1 Penrith Town 4: Ryan Errington hit a classy double to put Penrith Town's title charge back on track - before he was sent off.
The Blues frontman upped his tally for the season to 11, before being handed a second yellow for taunting Prudhoe defender Ryan Monoghan while celebrating his second goal.
Monaghan was shown a straight red for his part in the confrontation after angrily kicking out at the jubilant striker in response.
Town are now third, just a point behind league leaders South Shields, who slumped to a 2-0 home defeat against Norton & Stockton.
Errington opened the scoring for Penrith firing past home keeper Jonathan Hands in the 27th minute. He then put them ahead again in the 56th minute after Prudhoe midfielder Ben Haddock had equalised ten minutes before the break.
Blue booted winger Craig Wilson increased Town's lead six minutes later, converting from the spot after Barry Irving had been fouled and then Irving finished off the rout seven minutes from time powerfully heading in from substitute Pete Ferris' right-wing cross.
Blues boss Dave Heslop said: “Ryan was a bit silly making gestures at their player. He took a lot of physical punishment but he has to learn to rise above it and take it as a compliment.”
PENRITH: Holland, Lynn, Jones, Pattinson (Fletcher 84), Robertson, Frampton, Wilson (Paul 75), Townsley, Irving, Errington, Lea (Ferris 70). Unused subs: Jackson, Hodgson.
STAR MAN: Wayne Robertson. Once again a tower of strength at the back. Would undoubtedly have been awarded to Errington but for his moment of madness.
NEXT MATCH: Carlisle United, Cumberland Cup Final, Wednesday April 16, 7.30pm.
