Town gunning to go up

DAVE HESLOP is backing his side to win promotion to Northern One tomorrow by beating Crook Town (World Group Stadium, kick-off 3pm).
Third-place Town will be promoted with three games to play if they beat Crook, regardless of what fourth-place Sunderland Ryhope do away at Ryton.
They have been hit by a big blow ahead of the game after their appeal against Derek Townsley’s two-match ban was thrown out by Northern League chiefs.
The influential midfielder has now been slapped with a two-match ban and will miss tomorrow’s game and Tuesday’s away clash at North Shields.
Heslop said: “It’s in our own hands and we know that if we win we’re up. The players have just got to rest, prepare and get themselves up for the game.
“We’re not happy with the league’s decision against our appeal because to have someone of Degsy’s ability and experience available would have been a massive help to the team at a crucial time.
“I don’t think nerves will come into it. They’re all experienced enough and good enough and they know what’s expected.
“I’m sure there might be a drink or two if and when we go up but we have to stay focused and make sure we give nothing less than 100 per cent. It’s no use making plans to celebrate before we’ve achieved it.
“We want to do it tomorrow. The players have been superb all season and we don’t want to be hanging on, scrapping for the final points needed with a game to go.”
