Paddy McCrenor's salmon caught on the fly in Mill Beck on the YFF water has taken the lead in this season's competition for the captor of the biggest Eden salmon of the season.

As we went to press last week all we knew was that Paddy's fish was thought to be at least 30lb. The fish was measured in the presence of witnesses, against a 15-foot double handed salmon fly rod and later proved to be 42 inches, meaning the weight of the superbly proportioned spring fish could have been between 30 and 34lb.

Paddy is now in with a chance of winning a box of 50 superb Irish Shrimp flys expertly tied by Carlisle fly tier Keith Haggis Hargraves; that is if no one lands a bigger salmon before the end of the season. Anyone interested in the full range of quality flies tied by Haggis can contact him on 07967145504.
