St Benny’s finish fourth in the table

THE North Lancs Cumbria game which was on and then off, was in fact played on Saturday at Whitehaven.
St Benedict’s had arranged to meet Wigton in the game that had been called-off on March 8 because of a waterlogged pitch. But then the League intervened and asked Wigton to go to De La Salle – another game outstanding for the Lowmoor Road side.
That didn’t go down well at St Benedict’s as they had sponsors booked for the day while Wigton were in a position of not being able to take a full team to Salford.
Coach Malcolm Brown explained: “We had several guys working on Saturday morning which meant they couldn’t finish early enough to travel to De La Salle.
It would have meant going without a recognised front-row and not been able to play contested scrums.
“The lads who were working could still finish at lunch-time and make a game at Whitehaven. Thankfully good sense prevailed and the League told us to go to St. Benedict’s.”
Wigton won 23-5 and finish the season in fourth.
