Have your say

I was born and bred in Whitehaven and lived there for 18 years. I got itchy feet and joined the Royal Navy where i spent 4 years sailing round the world but always loved coming home to Cumbria. I met my Husband on a blind date and decided to emmigrate to Australia. We have now been here for 3 years and have a son called Harry. I read the Whitehaven news webpage everyday and speak to my Mum and Sister most weekends and they update me on the Whitehaven crack. You can take a Whitehaven lass out of Whitehaven but you can't take Whitehaven out of a lass ! Cumbria will always be my true home and i miss it lots.

I lived most of my early life in Denton Holme. Met my first husband and moved to Middlesbrough soon after we got married. Got divorced seven years later. Married Mike and we now live in Cyprus. Was back in Carlisle last September. The Lanes are a great improvement on the way they were when I went to 'Kings'. It was nice to see nothing much has changed. My dad was manager of Border Fruit in the market and Adams fruit shop which is no longer there. I remember chips from Brucianni's and the Wimpy Bar, like Neil but also Pierie's meat patties and Robinsons, the best fish and chips in the world. Bonds teenage dances on a Saturday night and having to get the No 6 bus to Cummersdale. Also the great lads from Hadrians Camp. I made a lot of friends. Many happy memories. If anyone still remembers a shy girl called Christine Harrison you'll not believe that I am just about to publish my first book, a murder with five or six more to come. Look me up in about September under Christine Stokoe.
