A WIGTON artist’s work has been accepted for a national exhibition displaying the “best of the best”.
A piece by glass artist Jude Stoll has been accepted at the British Glass Biennale 2008 at the Ruskin Glass Centre in Stourbridge.
The event is a highlight of the glass art world calendar.
Exhibits accepted are judged and the winner receives a £20,000 prize.
Jude, of Proctor’s Road, said: “When I found out I had been accepted I was jumping up and down screaming!
“I just didn’t think I would get in.
“The Biennale is for the best of the best.”
Jude, who is part of the team behind Wigton Free For All and is working to nurture art in the town, created her piece in response to Wordsworth’s poem – Daffodils. As an artist, she uses recycled materials and wanted the piece to reflect her ethos.
“I focused on an article I read saying that daffodils are coming earlier and earlier every year in Cumbria,” said Jude.
“As a glass artist you do use a lot of energy, adding to climate change.
“I really thought about that and I’ve changed my method of working,” she said.
The conceptual exhibit is called Narcissus Poeticus Var. Donum Redivivum – a Latin phrase containing the name of a daffodil and a phrase meaning to give life into old things.
Jude added: “I thought it was appropriate.”
