A WIGTON arthritis sufferer made every step count for local charities walking 100 miles over Hadrian’s Wall country.
Paul Radcliffe’s determination over the four-day trek raised a grand total of £2,100 for the Wigton Heart and Stroke Club and the town’s Chrysalis Day Centre, it was announced this week.
The walk saw Paul and his pal, Stephen Rowbotham, walk from Wallsend to Bowness-on-Solway during May.
Paul, who has had arthritis for more than 12 years, was inspired to put his shoe leather to the test for charity after seeing funding streams to charities tighten nationwide. He said: “It was challenging at times, but a group of people from Chrysalis met us at Port Carlisle to walk the last mile and a quarter – this really helped us along.”
The cash was also raised through local events including a Roman-themed evening of cookery and entertainment in St Cuthbert’s Church.
Paul added: “I’d like to thank all those who encouraged me and made donations.”
