SINGER Andrew Johnston is about to embark on a five-day Norweigian tour – but not before giving his Carlisle fans a special preview.
The Britain’s Got Talent star will travel to Stavanger next week with 30 members of the Carlisle Cathedral Choir.
But before he departs, the 13-year-old will perform at a special concert in the city.
Andrew, who captured the heart of the nation after appearing on the ITV talent show, will perform a solo at the pre-tour lunchtime concert at the cathedral on Tuesday, August 26.
The piece he will be singing at the recital, which starts at 12.45pm with free entry, will be Ave Maria by Schubert.
Later in the week Andrew, who attends Carlisle’s Trinity School, will travel to Norway with the rest of the choir.
The tour has come about because Stavanger is one of Carlisle’s partner dioceses. During the visit, the group will perform at Stavanger Cathedral and Ulstein Monastery.
Andrew and the choir will also be special guests at the British International School, where former Cumwhinton Primary School head, Anne Howells, is now in charge.
The Carlisle Cathedral Choir is made up of 15 boys, eight girls and seven adult lay clerks. While in Norway, the young singers will be staying with the families of Stavanger Cathedral’s choristers.
The Carlisle contingent will also include the cathedral’s new assistant organist, Edward Taylor, and the Dean of Carlisle, the Very Reverend Mark Boyling, whose son Julio is a chorister with the group.
The tour will be a memorable occasion for Andrew and two of his fellow choristers, Luke Blacklock and Philip Carter, as it will be their last with the choir.
From September they will move up to the youth choir.
On his return, Andrew, who made it to the final of Britain’s Got Talent earlier this year, is set to release his first album.
The teenager, whose appearance on the show earned him global acclaim, has been in London recording the record after securing a deal with TV’s ‘Mr Nasty’ Simon Cowell – one of the most influential figures in today’s music business.
The album, called One Voice, is due to be released on September 1.
It features his own covers of Bright Eyes from the movie Watership Down, Eric Clapton’s ballad Tears in Heaven and Walking in the Air, from the 1982 film The Snowman.
