Help shape the future

CUMBRIA County Council wants residents to influence the decisions which affect their lives.
It is launching a trial community outreach programme as part of the Together We Can scheme to encourage the public to get involved in shaping the services they use.
Various activities will be arranged to encourage debate including drop-in sessions, sports tasters and health checks. Crime, youth facilities, roads, graffiti, litter and traffic are expected to be top of the public’s agenda.
According to statistics, only 33 per cent of Cumbrians believe they can make a difference to their local area.
The county council wants to reverse this opinion and will be working with police and other agencies in order to convince residents that they have a voice.
The programme will be tested out in six areas including Harraby in Carlisle, Maryport, Appleby and Cleator Moor.
If successful it will be rolled out to the rest of the county.
