Training scheme launched

THE University of Cumbria has launched a new teacher training scheme in partnership with the National Union of Teachers.

For the first time in the north west, teachers will be offered a professional development programme based on NUT input. The masters-level course is due to launch in September.

Dean of education Neil Simco said: “The faculty of education is delighted to be entering into this partnership with the NUT.

“We are very committed to this work because it will provide fresh opportunities for teachers to undertake high quality, contemporary, professional development.”

The course – based at the university’s Cumbrian campuses – will include modules for primary and secondary teachers. A second course for early career teachers will be launched at the Tower Hamlets campus in London.

Christine Blower, the NUT’s acting general secretary, said: “Our professional development programmes are well respected and based on evidence of what works for teachers’ learning. Time and again, the NUT has drawn on the best that universities can offer for expert input to our courses.”
