Cumbrian schools rewarded for good practice

Four schools in Cumbria have achieved a national Leading Aspect Award for areas of good practice in the past school year.

The award has been developed to recognise, celebrate and share leading practice in education. It is endorsed by the Department of Children, Schools and Families and by Ofsted.

Langwathby School near Penrith has been recognised in two areas and received two awards. One is for its work in promoting art and the other is for the school’s early years provision.

Elsewhere, St Michael’s Nursery and Infant School in Workington was also acknowledged for its high quality foundation stage.

The school’s provision has undergone vast improvements and children are demonstrating greater independence and are more fully involved in their learning.

In the south of the county, Pennington CE School near Ulverston and Arnside National CE Primary School, Carnforth were acknowledged too.

John Swainston, head of schools and learning at Cumbria County Council, said: “There is such a variety of good work being carried out with children across Cumbria and it is great that this is being recognised nationally.”
