A BUDDING young Silloth author is well-versed in success with her poetry appearing in a national anthology.
Solway Community College student, Alice Dockeray, 13, has achieved national success with her verse appearing in the Coming of Age collection.
The book is a collection of poetry by young writers chosen from the work of thousands of pupils across the country.
Alice was first published when she was 11 at Holme St Cuthbert primary school.
This year’s entry, Take a Piece of My Heart, describes the year nine pupil’s dreams and aspirations for herself and the world.
Alice said: “I was really surprised and excited when I got a letter saying my poem had been chosen.
“A lot of people sent in poems and I didn’t expect mine to be selected.”
Head of English at Solway, Gillian Scholey, said: “I am really impressed with Alice’s poem and so proud that her talent has been recognised.
“Alice has always had a super imagination we are very proud of her achievement and look forward to her having even more success in the future.”
