THE outgoing headteacher of a small Cumbrian secondary school has given his successor a tour to meet staff and pupils.
Maurice Peddelty will retire from Samuel King’s School in Alston at Christmas after 18 years.
His replacement is John Whittle, currently deputy headteacher at Beacon Hill School in Aspatria.
John will start his job in January but last week was invited to meet staff and pupils.
The two schools are similar, both being rural secondary schools in market towns with pupil numbers around the 200-mark.
Mr Peddelty joined the staff at Samuel King’s School in 1990 as deputy head, taking the top job in September 2000.
He said: “I wish John a successful and happy time in his new school.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed the past 18 years at Samuel King’s and will be sad to leave the pupils and my colleagues.
“I wish John and the school the best of luck for the future.”
Julie Richardson, head of Beacon Hill in Aspatria, informed parents of Mr Whittle’s departure in a recent newsletter.
His post will be filled by Dave Millne, who moves over from Whitehaven School.
She wrote: “Mr Whittle...is a hard act to follow but the governors and I are confident that we have a fantastic replacement in Mr Millne.”
