Hadrian’s Wall Heritage Ltd has appointed former Cumbrian Mark Leach as its new marketing manager.
Mark, 33, who grew up near Brampton, will promote the organisation, which has responsibility for the marketing, protection and regeneration of the World Heritage Site.
He has returned to the north of England to take up the role after spending 10 years working for the National Tourist Office, VisitBritain, which saw him based in London, Milan and most recently Paris, where he acted as regional marketing manager for Southern Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Though he retains fond memories of his time overseas, Mark admits that his heart lies in this part of the world.
He said: “Returning to this area was something I always planned to do. I’ve lived in some amazing countries but the landscape, people and history of the north of England make this my favourite place to be.
“I’m thrilled to take up the task of developing and marketing the Wall to a larger audience – and seeing more visitors learn about its historic past and extraordinary remains.”
Vineet Lal, communications and branding director at Hadrian’s Wall Heritage Ltd, said: “Mark has a wealth of experience in marketing Britain as a destination to the world market.
“He also has some excellent industry contacts that will really contribute to our efforts in marketing Wall country to tourists in Europe and further afield.”
