Our visit revealed city out of control with no appreciation of its history

We visited Carlisle, the alleged “great historic city” over the weekend.
We were disgusted with Carlisle’s “no-go” areas.
The closure of Botchergate made it impossible for my disabled wife to be dropped off.
At Hammonds Pond, we discovered an overflowing sewer which is certainly not acceptable.
In all, our stay found Carlisle to be a dirty, drunken city that makes visitors unwelcome.
Historic Carlisle is the wrong name for Carlisle, as those designing property show no interest towards retaining traditional buildings. As for closing Botchergate, this shows a city out of control.

Surely if the man's disabled wife could get around Hamonds Pond, she would be able to get from a car park to Botchergate.But
if Botchergate is 'closed', why on earth would you want to be dropped off there.
I think you are contradicting yourself.
Carlisle is a historic city, and does welcome visitors, but this person seems to just look for the negatives.
